beauty | hello flawless

whilst having a gander at my RSS feed i came across this beautiful new packaging for benefits new ‘hello flawless oxygen wow’ foundation. i love how simple it is, and how it differs greatly from the existing bubbly pop packaging they have. i can’t wait to try it out! below is an interview with the senior designer behind this great packaging.

thedieline: which typefaces were used to create the hand rendered look?
dara diliegro: typefaces for the product name include slightly altered strangelove and hannah. though we considered hand drawing the type, we knew that a typeface would be more user friendly.

thedieline: does the sticker on the top of the box represent the shade of the make up?
dara diliegro: yes, not only does the label include the printed shade name but the color represents the shade. they were matched on press to the actual shade. the shade label is visible from the front and top of the box.

thedieline: why did you choose a white box and frosted plastic?
dara diliegro: most liquid foundation boxes are black so as not to alter the shade color however black is not in the benefit dna. we chose to stand out in white and silver which are light and airy just like the product!

thedieline: is there anything else you wanted to share about the process of creating this package design?
dara diliegro: we went through a few versions that featured patterns and graphic images but ultimately settled on a typographic solution which expresses the unique characteristics of the product.

it’s going to retail over in the states for $34! the drop in store is the 4th of march (again, only in the states until i can find further information for the united kingdom) but if you’re reading this from the states, you can purchase it here online now!

with help from this blog i managed to find out that this will be available in ireland from the 23rd of march! i’m not sure if this applies for the united kingdom, but i hope it does!

design | eyeko rebrand

i’m not what you’d call a ‘fan’ of eyeko but i have been aware of their products and i tried their mascaras a while back. their cute manga japanese style branding they had going on was very off-putting, and it was definitely aimed at the wrong market. not to mention their tacky packaging.

although i’m pretty late on picking this up, as i believe they rebranded around september last year – i came across their new look accidentally when i was trying to find somewhere to purchase the ever popular 3 in 1 glow cream moisturiser. i initially checked their website, but noticed their horrific new layout with VERY little products available. i then tried superdrug and asos, but neither had any of their old stock. advertisement and publicity of the new branding has been in the shade considering how long ago they switched. it’s only in this months valentines edition of glossybox that i’ve even remembered who eyeko are!

i can’t find a big enough resolution to show you the old logo (i’ll leave you to google it if you don’t know who eyeko are already) but this is the new logo:

i really like it! it portrays a more serious approach to cosmetics, something that i’d feel comfortable with paying for their increased priced products. but i want their old stock! does anybody know where i can get the 3 in 1 glow cream moisturiser now?

design | pigeons and peacocks

it’s not that creative, it’s quite destructive if you think about it, but there’s something relaxing about drawing on peoples faces in magazines. when a black biro just happens to be screaming at a beautiful thick paged magazine it’s pretty hard to resist.

biro

my scanner did a terrible job of scanning in the biro, it’s all shiney and not as dark as i scribbled…i apologize.

pigeons & peacocks is a photography and fashion based magazine created by the students at university of arts london; london college of fashion. it’s packed full of interesting articles and plenty of double page spreads of the fashion, make-up and photography that the students have done. above is a page eight from issue #3.
